Evaluation
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms of conventions of real media products?
My film is an action/thriller, i think it represents these genres as it starts with a black car that pulls up in the car park which often shows a sign of upper class or importance. the man that gets out has a file in his hand which you never find out what is in the file or why it is so special, this suggests the thriller genre. When the man goes to walk into the school two men are waiting for him and as soon as he walks past they suspiciously follow him the man begins to run which starts off the action packed chase. I think our film has similar aspects of other films like casino royale as it is mysterious in parts but explains itself in the end, our film is mainly different due to coming from our own imagination.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
I think the two men that first appear in the atrium at school could be stereotyped as thugs, they are wearing dark clothing with their hoods up. These two characters then end up chasing after the other main character and causing mayhem which suits the stereotype given to these two characters. The other character maybe seen as upper class and looks important, i think he is seen in a positive light as he looks like a good person with high importance as he is carrying the secret file. whereas the stereotypical 'thugs' would be seen in a negative light. When we were finalizing our idea we set out to make the characters look stereotypical so their clothing was meant to look upper class and thugs.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The predicted audience for our film would be boys, from the ages of 14 to around 50 years of age, as they seem to react to mild violence . As it is an action thriller it wouldn't appeal to many girls as they would rather watch chick flicks, comedies or romantic films.
What kind of institution might distribute your media product and why?
i think that warner bros would be interested in distributing our film as they have distributed films like The Martrix which is the same sort of genre as our film. Also due to our film being similar they may be intregued with our film idea and our pitch, the matrix was a successful film and hopefully they can make our film as succesful.
How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience by using loud music that makes the audience eager to watch what happens next when the chase starts. There is some mild violence in this film which helps to contribute to a feel of adrenaline this is why i chose males from the age of 14 to around 50 years of age as they react better to these types of films.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
When i started this course i didnt have a clue how to use a Mac, iMovie, Blogger or a camcorder, soduring the course I have gained this skill of being able to use them, with the help of my teacher. I have learned to use these effectively within this course and being able to use them on my own without making any mistakes.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Looking back at my preliminary task, i have progressed further in the skills i have gained while doing this course. I used imovie to edit and put together my final film, i had to edit sound tracks in and take them back out again. i also had to edit and cut some parts that i didnt need, at the start of the year i wouldnt have known how to do this. I do think ive progressed as you can tell from the difference of my preliminary task and my full final project.

filmed establishing shots
We have filmed a few establishing shots in and around school for our film but haven't got any further than that. We also need to get some people to act in our film. We have also edited a few shots and started putting them together.

filmed establishing shots, from storyboards
This week we filmed some establishing shots from the storyboards we did of our film, we then
uploaded the shots onto the macs through a firewire cable and edited the shots.

updated media diary
This week we updated our
media diary, finished our storyboards and added notes for sound effects,
music,lighting etc…
continued idea and storyboards from previous week
This week we worked in groups to continue with our
ideas that we thought of last week but we went into more detail.
made up a story that we are going to film and produce storyboards within the group.
This week we got put into groups of 3 and 4, where we
had to make up a story that we are going to film and also produce storyboards
within our group.
watched black christmas
We watched a film called ‘black christmas’ and had to
identify why it was classed as a ‘christmas/horror’ genre type of film.
established genre
This week we continued with our work from last week
with establishing genre, but this time we did the work on our own. We drew
storyboards for the opening of a film with a certain genre of our choice and
had to identify the reasons/features of why it was classed as that type of
genre.
watched the opening of two diferent films(hot fuzz)(sherlock holmes)
We watched the openings of two very different films
and had to find out the genres of them, when and where they were set and also
who the main character was. We then filled in a sheet that asked us how we
identified the certain genres, for example after watching a film that had
fighting, police and villains we established that it was a crime/action/drama
type of style of film.
learning about genre
This week we worked in small groups and was given a
genre of film to evaluate and write down as many things associated with the
type of genre for example if the genre was western we wrote cowboys, horses and
guns.
imovie lesson
This week we worked in the same group as last week.
We imported all of our footage onto the mac and edited it on imovie. We then
went to film a few ore shots to import onto the mac, we then put the extra
shots into our film and edited it, we also cut the bits of footage that we
didn’t need off. We used the camera to film our shots. We used a firewire to
import our footage from the camera onto the mac. We also used a tripod to keep
the camera steady and at the right angle. We used the 180 degree rule in our
footage and also shot reverse shot.
This screen shot shows Imovie that we used on week 5.

started filming preliminary task
Today we started our preliminary task. We drew a
basic storyboard sequence including three rules. We used cameras, tripods and
tapes, which we set up ourselves. We then filmed our sequence, when we got back
to the classroom we rewound our tape, edited the footage and then dissembled the camera set up.
This is our short preliminary task, showing me walking into a room, crossing the room, sitting down on a chair and then talking to hannah.

180 degree rule lesson
Today I learned about match on match action, we also
drew our storyboards. I found this quite easy and enjoyable. I also uploaded
the photos onto the computer and produced examples of match on match action,
180 degree rule and shot reverse shot.
This first shot shows the 180 degree rule.
This second shot shows the shot reverse shot rule.

This third shot shows the match on match action rule.
The next few shots ae an example of the continuity editing rule where basically you film a scene in different angles and they are edited into a continuity sequence.
Photo editing lesson
This week I learned how to use iphoto and how to edit
the photos. I also imported the photos onto the computer and edit them.
learned about shot reverse shot, 180 degree rule and the different techniques.
In my lessons I learned about shot reverse shot, 180
degree rule and also created our own storyboards and learned the different
techniques in media. I have also learned how to use iphoto. I took photos on a
camera to create a story where I had to import photos and also edit them. I
used shot reverse shot in my images.
